Narrative Paragraph

A Bicycle Ride

Sam 8

It was July in the summer. I was 7 back then, I was never the smartest kid, so I always got tricked by my family. I’m always watching the television. I was at home watching a cartoon television show. My cousin quickly ran inside the house: “You want to go for a ride with me, Sam?” she said. I felt surprise as she asked me, I replied: “Go where?” “Just go for a ride in my new bicycle!!” she said. “Sure, but did you ask mom and dad for the permission?” I asked her gently. “Of course, I always ask aunt and uncle for the permission to take you out of the house”. I didn’t know that she was lying to me; she did not ask my parent for the permission ride. I agreed and we ran out for a ride, we went to the next house to get our bicycle. My cousin took her bicycle as fast as she could. I saw my parents inside the house doing work, I just wanted to say goodbye to my mom and my dad but cousin Evon closed the door before I could say a word. I felt disappointed as I climbed up the bicycle, I asked myself: “How can I be so short, can’t even climb up the bicycle by myself. I used to be the shortest one in my class when I was studying at the Australia International School. Most of my friends are tall and big. So Cousin Evon putted me at the back, she also climbed up the bicycle. For the first time, we fell on the ground because cousin Evon lost her control at the bicycle. I hurt my right arm, luckily it did not bleed. For the second time, we did it. The bicycle wheel just kept turning until we entered the road. We both felt great as the wind blew into our faces, we can feel the nature’s fresh air. We took a ride from district three to district ten, I felt like I was actually riding the bike and seeing all those motorcycle and cars, even trucks too. On the way, we stopped at an ice-cream shop and I ate vanilla ice-cream, it tasted kind of sweet and I loved it. We continued and we took a ride back home, on our way back, we saw a lot of dogs on the street like three or four black dogs. I never got a chance to raise a dog before so while my sister was riding. I shouted at the dog: “Hey dogs, hey, gau gau gau. Come here”. We were riding the bicycle as fast as we can so, the dogs followed us. I was kind of happy because the dogs are coming with us. The dogs kept running and barking, they scared me. I was scared: “Hey, the dogs are behind us and they are barking” “What?” cousin Evon shouted out loud. “The dogs are barking and I’m scared” I said. Cousin Evon looked at the dogs while she was riding the bicycle. From her perspective, she was surprise and scared as I was. We were almost home, we took a turn at the Dien Bien Phu street and headed to our house. Cousin Evon was terrified and she was really scared. I was scared too. Suddenly she asked me: “Have to take the medical shot before”. I was surprise: “What medical shot?”, she answered: “The dog medical shot that you have to took when you where a little boy” “I don’t know, you should ask my mom” I said. We were lucky because two of the dogs stopped at the road side to find something, I think that they were finding some food for themselves. We were sweating from the hot season of the year, we felt less scared because we were home. But the problem is who will open the door for us? I kept shouting at the house but no one answered. Miss Y our neighbor, she will turn 48 this years, she is a very kind woman. We saw her at the front door, she always sit at the front door from six to nine o’clock every day. We were shouting for help and she heard us. Miss Y scared the dogs, we were very tired and stopped the bicycle. Mom and Dad came out of the house and said: “What are you two doing out here?” they said. I answered them in a gently voice: “Evon asked for the permission to take a ride and that is why we are out here”. “What” they surprised, “Evon asked you guys right?” I also surprise too. “Evon did not ask us anything, I thought you were at our room watching TV” they said. I felt surprise and looked at Evon, she sat there with a sad face. I was very disappointed at her. After a few days. Cousin Evon went back to Hong Kong, she was just here for vacation. After the problem, every time that I have done something, I always look back at this memory and make sure everything is good. I will never the trip with cousin Evon.

The END

  1. Awesome essay Sam, really interesting and quite 'cliff-hanging'! It's great that you have described what happened in details, and the plots really get the readers into them. However, you should use more stronger descriptive words to express the actions and feelings so that the readers would feel curious and nervous while reading your story. Great one, though!
